Ironically, one of the toughest lessons to learn in life is to love and respect yourself. While we do our best to be devoted partners, loyal friends, obedient children, passionate employees, kind neighbors, and hard-working co-workers, we forget to nourish the source of it all- our self.
It takes wisdom, knowledge, and courage to be comfortable in your own skin, as we live in a society that keeps degrading us and promoting unrealistic role models.
These are 5 traits of people who truly love themselves:
- Self-loving people listen to their inner voice and are happy with themselves, when they look in the mirror, when they go to bed at night, when they enter the room, everywhere. They acknowledge who they truly are, and they focus on their strengths, instead of their flaws.
- These people take care of themselves, nourish their body and mind, and keep their living and working place neat and organized. Self-loving people know that all education is self-education, and when you know better, you live better and feel better about yourself.
- They are open-minded, but stick to their beliefs and values in life, and change them only when they have a really good reason for it. They never lower their standards for the wrong reasons and tend to always do what they believe is right.
- Self-loving people know that their mistakes are valuable lessons, and should not be denied. They recognize problems but do not blame anyone for them. Instead, they take responsibility and use the time and effort to find a solution. If this proves to be impossible, they just move on. They stand behind the decisions they make in life and mind their own business.
- They help others and participate in the community without hoping for personal gain. Self-loving people know that life is a circle, and they share their abundance. They spread their positive feelings and find pure joy in providing aid to anyone in need.
Remember this Steve Maraboli’s quote:
“The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself.
It is in this relationship that you set the standard for all others.”
