Our eyesight deteriorates as we get older. Vision issues have been found to be common among individuals who read and work on computers. Luckily, there are some natural ways and lifestyle changes that we can follow to improve our eyesight and prevent injuries or illnesses that could harm our vision.

Eat For The Eyes
Foods rich in vitamin A are good for our vision and healthy eye function. Aside from this, foods loaded with vitamin E, vitamin C, copper, and zinc should also be included in our diet. Some of the best foods we can include are carrots, green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach and collards, and citrus fruits.
Since macular degeneration is one of our biggest challenges as we get older, it’s important to eat foods with antioxidant properties. These include eggs, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and dark leafy greens.
Oily fish are also great for our eyes. They are rich in DHA, a fatty acid that strengthens cell membranes, including those in our eyes. Mackerel, wild salmon, tuna and cod are some of its best sources.
Don’t Forget The Carotenoids
Lutein and zeaxanthin are two important nutrients needed to improve eyesight. These two are carotenoids found in the retina and they help protect the macula by improving pigment density in that part of the eye and absorbing ultraviolet and blue light. We can also find them in leafy greens eggs, broccoli, and zucchini.
There are known exercises for the eyes so that it could remain in good shape. These exercises are great when done in the morning, before retiring to bed, or when our eyes feel tired. Do this for a month to start noticing a difference.
Simply warm the eyes for five seconds using warm palms. Do this three times then roll the eyes to help eye muscles too. Lastly, look up and circle the eyes for about ten times in other directions.
Full Body Exercise For Vision
Exercising is healthy for our entire body, including our eyes. Being active for at least 20 minutes can help improve blood circulation which is beneficial to the small blood vessels in the eyes as it removes harmful substances that may have been deposited. We can have simple exercises such as brisk walking to obtain results.
Manage Chronic Conditions
A number of diseases can affect our vision. These include diabetes, high blood pressure, and multiple sclerosis which are all linked to chronic inflammation that can harm our health from head to toe.
Manage these conditions with healthy habits and medications. For example, high blood pressure can be effectively treated with a heart-healthy diet, being physically active and antihypertensive medications.
Get Enough Sleep
A night of regular, restful sleep is needed by our bodies as well as by our eyes. When our body gets enough rest, our eyes become renewed. Having short breaks is recommended for those who are engaged in intense visual activity such as working on a computer or reading a book. Doing this will give our eyes a chance to rest.
Rest For Your Eyes
It would be helpful if we close our eyes for a few minutes. Doing this once an hour or many times, especially if our works involve sitting in front of a computer or reading, can be refreshing. It can also protect our eyes from overexertion or fatigue.
Wearing shades is one of the key steps to improve eyesight. Have sunglasses that can block out 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB radiation from sunlight. This can help protect our eyes from conditions that stem from eye damage such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and pterygium — a growth of tissue over the white part of the eye (this can cause blurred vision).
