It’s frustrating to have nighttime wakefulness. Despite trying different positions to have a good sleep, still we end up having busy sleepless minds. Pressing certain points in our body may help us with sleep imbalances that usually come from stress and a lack of being able to calm or soothe oneself.
Inner Frontier Gate
The inner frontier gate point is found on our arm, about three finger widths below our wrist. Stimulating this point may help to reduce anxiety while also relieving nausea and pain.
To ease insomnia, we need to turn our hands over so that our palms are facing up. Take one hand and count three finger widths down from the wrist crease and apply a steady downward pressure between the two tendons in this location. Massage the area for four to five seconds using a circular or up-and-down motion.
This point is located at the crease on our outer wrist, just below our pinkie finger. Applying pressure on this point is associated with quieting our mind, thus helping us fall asleep.
For those suffering from insomnia, simply feel for the small, hollow space in this area and apply gentle pressure in a circular or up-and-down movement. Continue doing this for two to three minutes. Hold the left side of the point with gentle pressure for a few seconds, and then hold the right side. Repeat this on the same area of the other wrist.
This point is behind the earlobe, toward the top of the neck and the base of our skull. It is known to be one of the most useful acupressure points when it comes to treating insomnia.
Simply place the thumbs on these points found on either side. Bending the head slightly forward, and then backward again, will help us feel these points easily. Gently massage in slow rotary movements while taking deep breaths. Inhale long breaths, build up for a few seconds, and release the breath slowly.
The gushing spring point can be found on the sole of the foot. It’s the small depression under the ball of the foot between the second and third metatarsal bone. Stimulating this pressure point is believed to ground our energy, and renew and revitalize our mind and body to induce sleep.
To treat insomnia, we need to lie back with our knees bent in order to reach our feet with our hands. Take one foot in the hand and curl toes. Press the point to a degree where the pain is bearable. Gently massage in slow rotary movements. Repeat these steps on the other foot.
